Scale Space worked with the Platform Lift Company to develop an access solution for the foyer area of Scale Space, a new business innovation centre in White City. Scale Space offers flexible workspace, laboratory space, meeting and conference facilities, and is being developed by a Joint Venture between Imperial College London and Blenheim Chalcot.
This brand-new development, designed by Cary Jones Chapman Tolcher (Concept design) and Oppermann Associates (Detailed Design), will provide 200,000 sq. ft of space for high-growth businesses, and is set out over four floors. The street level entrance lobby has stairs leading down into a versatile conference space. A platform lift was required to provide step free access to this area.
The Platform Lift Company recommended using its EasyLift model to overcome the 800mm drop down to the next level. With its small footprint and slimline design, this open style platform lift would also fit the available space without looking obtrusive.
Installation was carried out within half a day. The EasyLift was fixed to the back wall and sits on the finished floor. The ramp entrance to the platform lift avoided the need to create a lift-pit, thus simplifying the installation.
The subtle grey finish and clean lines of the open style platform lift perfectly align with the contemporary architecture of the building. Wireless upper and lower call stations, operational pressure buttons and automatic glass gate provide users with complete autonomy in accessing both levels.
Scale Space White City exemplifies a new build with inclusive design features such as wider walkways and disability access, that also meets modern business needs.
Charlie Mitchell, Managing Director of Scale Space, commented:
“The engagement with the team at the Platform Lift Company has been excellent. After the initial enquiry, they visited the site several times, reviewed all the site details, liaised with the architects and our site team, and identified all interface issues which we then addressed. All this pre-work culminated in a trouble-free lift installation. Based on this very positive experience, I will definitely consider working with the Platform Lift Company again in the future.”
