Kentec Electronics’ K-Mesh wireless fire detection system ensures robust communication and reliable performance across a wide variety of environments. Not only as effective as its wired counterparts, K-Mesh offers some unique advantages in terms of reliability, ease of use, flexibility and cost-effectiveness.
Wireless fire detection has evolved to offer a highly sophisticated, reliable and scalable life safety solution. Kentec leads the way in wireless fire detection with its K-Mesh range, which supports various devices including smoke detectors, heat detectors and manual call points, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
Straight talk
At the core of the K-Mesh system is a wireless translator module, which interfaces directly with a fire alarm control panel loop and maintains continuous communication with all wireless devices deployed throughout the system. Additionally, K-Mesh expander modules relay signals from field devices back to the translator module, guaranteeing reliable communication. Each wireless device within the K-Mesh network autonomously selects the expander module offering the strongest signal path, creating a self-healing network.
The K-Mesh system can be easily integrated with Kentec’s Taktis control panels, which provide centralised monitoring, management and advanced diagnostic features. Each K-Mesh device can send status updates and alarms to the Taktis panel and this ensures comprehensive fire detection coverage with real-time alerts and efficient management, enhancing overall protection. Highly scalable, it is easy to expand the network by adding more K-Mesh devices or additional Taktis panels.
Looking good
Building aesthetics are increasingly important and one of the most important advantages of K-Mesh is that there is no drilling, digging and associated mess. It also avoids the possibility of putting lives in danger. With a wired system, if the cable is damaged the entire system is affected – a situation that is impossible with K-Mesh.
Eliminating the need for cabling also saves money, as K-Mesh can be installed in a fraction of the time taken to install a wired system. It can also be designed, programmed and commissioned via the free K-Mesh Configurator software before visiting the site, saving further installation time. Integrators then just need to position and fix detectors, manual call points, sounders and beacons at specified locations.
K-Mesh devices are equipped with high-capacity batteries that provide long-lasting power, reducing the frequency of replacement. They use low-power components and wireless communication protocols that minimise energy consumption, only transmitting data when necessary.
Proof positive
With 75,000 devices successfully installed across over 750 sites across the UK, K-Mesh has proven its effectiveness across new construction projects as well as refurbishments in locations including hotels, offices, schools and hospitals. Its advantages have also been brought to heritage sites such as Chester Cathedral that need to balance architectural preservation with modern safety requirements.
