Fulham FC Riverside Stand – London

Designed by architects Populous, the new Riverside Stand at Craven Cottage has transformed this part of the River Thames, not only visually but also in a practical way, by creating world class leisure facilities.

In addition to increasing seating capacity and enhancing amenities for supporters, the new stand builds on the legacy of Fulham Football Club, which dates back to 1896. The new development includes restaurants overlooking the river, events spaces, a health club complete with roof-top pool, a boutique hotel and a roof terrace. The scheme also features a public pathway that will allow an uninterrupted walk along the banks of the River Thames between Hammersmith and Putney Bridges.Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd handled the demolition of the old stand and construction of the Riverside Stand and they engaged Kaicer Building Envelope Solutions to provide the spectacular glass façade at the rear, overlooking the river.

A specific element of the façade design involved the installation of glazed louvres at high level. Kaicer chose Fieger FLM AirTec single-glazed louvre vents to meet the requirement.

A total of 36 louvre windows were supplied, in varying sizes, comprising 12.76 laminated glass blades.

The vent framework was powder coated to RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey to give a matt finish matching the surrounding curtain walling. The aluminium framing was pre-anodized to provide marine grade standard protection.

Apart from the aesthetic aspect, the glazed louvres enable airflow through the stand during warmer weather, preventing a build-up of heat, as well as providing a degree of protection against adverse conditions at other times of the year.

The vents were supplied with manual controls, consisting of detachable crank handles to minimise unauthorised use.

Glazing adapters were supplied fitted to the vent frames to facilitate installation into the curtain walling system.

The FLM model has been tested to EN 14351-1 Windows and doors product standard, as well as to BS 6180: 2011 for barrier-loading.
