Set in the heart of the Nine Elms regeneration area on the south bank of the Thames, the Battersea Power Station development comprises a number of phases starting with Phase 1, which includes Faraday House forming part of Circus West.
Completed in 2017, this is one of the newest riverside villages with a location close to Chelsea Bridge and Battersea Park.
The bold & imaginative design by dRMM Architects contrasts the art deco industrial splendour of the old power station with a contemporary copper finished façade.
The contract for the façade was won by Prater Ltd, who chose Fieger FLM glass louvre vents to provide ventilation to the five stair cores.
Winner of the 2018 RIBA London Award
Apart from being an architectural feature, using glazed louvre windows to the stair cores provides protection against winter weather, as well as enabling the release of hot air during summer.
A third role is provided by Fieger FLM SmoTec vents on the top floor to maintain clear escape ways in an emergency by allowing smoke to be dispersed.
A total of 111 louvre windows were supplied, each comprising 12.76mm single, heat strengthened, laminated glass blades.
The units were specially tailored to the requirements set down by Prater Ltd achieving a continuous louvre appearance across the full height of each stair core.
All of the units were finished in silver anodized to match the surrounding facade framework.
