ACO, UK BIM Alliance and StormBrixx

ACO Water Management were happy to have attended the recent UK BIM Alliance launch at the ICE BIM Conference. The purpose of the Alliance is to lead the industry-wide drive for awareness, education and adoption of BIM Level 2 and to promote its benefits to the construction sector.

As the first drainage company in the UK to provide BIM data, ACO recognise that it is vital to be part of the digitisation of the industry and to support its implementation throughout the entire supply chain. Drainage plays a vital role as the bridge between the built and the natural environment.

Stormbrixx is one such product that ACO have built a BIM model for. ACO StormBrixx is a unique and patented plastic geocellular stormwater management system. Designed for surface water infiltration and storage, its versatility allows it to be used in applications across all construction environments as a standalone solution, or as part of an integrated sustainable urban drainage (SUDS) scheme.

Designing StormBrixx into a BIM system, alongside the other drainage elements in the chain, such as channel drainage and Vortex control systems, is possible because ACO also have these items modelled in BIM. MultiDrain, ACO’s top selling Channel drain and Q-Brake Vortex, ACO’s vortex control system, can be taken from the free portal on the ACO site and added into any BIM model.

figures from the National BIM Report 2016 demonstrating that a minority (37%) use models from the start of a project to the very end, which suggests that, for most, BIM is restricted to the design stages. The report also identifies that only 30% produce a model that is software independent and just 16% pass on a model to those responsible for the management of a building.
