Sainsbury’s Makes Sound Choice With Regupol 6010BA
RG Group has installed Regupol 6010BA, the high load bearing screed isolation system from CMS Acoustic Solutions, at a new Sainsbury’s food store in Farnborough. Specified to control structure-borne noise at source, the installation of Regupol 6010BA will prevent the transfer of impact sound generated in the store from travelling through the steel frame structure and into residential apartments above.
The new Sainsbury’s is the anchor store for a £40 million re-development of an existing shopping centre in Farnborough. As part of a wider £80 million regeneration scheme for the town, the project will deliver a mixed-use development comprising retail, leisure, commercial and residential units. To make best use of available space, the development was designed with apartments above the retail and commercial properties.
Review of the building design by acoustic consultants, 24 Acoustics, identified the control of impact/structure-borne noise from the Sainsbury’s store interior as a primary concern. To overcome this challenge, Regupol 6010BA, a cost effective and sustainable resilient layer, was specified to ‘float’ the entire floor of the new food store.
Manufactured from recycled tyre crumb, Regupol 6010BA has a maximum load bearing capacity of 50kN/m2 and performs well even under high point loads. This was a specific consideration for Sainsbury’s as various point loads, such as plant rooms, would be apparent in the final fit-out of the store.
Covering a total area of approximately 4,000m2, the installation had to be completed against tight timescales to ensure the store was ready for the scheduled handover to Sainsbury’s. This was facilitated by the efficient and on-time deliveries of material to site and the quick and easy installation of Regupol 6010BA.
Louis Vandermerwe, RG Group, commented: “We were extremely impressed with the turnaround times from CMS Acoustics. As soon as Regupol 6010BA was identified as the most cost effective and high performing isolation solution to meet the project requirements, we needed to move quickly to installation. The material was delivered to site exactly when we needed, and proved quick and easy to install.”
Resistant to ageing and deformation, Regupol 6010BA has been proven to retain its performance characteristics for a long and maintenance free lifespan. This includes minimal creep, even under high loads, and impact sound insulation of 43dB.
A sustainable specification, Regupol 6010BA offers zero GWP (Global Warming Potential) and zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential). Moreover, in addition to being manufactured from recycled materials, it is also completely recyclable.
Paul Absolon, technical director, CMS Acoustics, concluded: “The continued popularity of mixed-use developments, which tend to be multi-storey to make best use of space, means the control of structure-borne noise is more imperative than ever. For Sainsbury’s, Regupol 6010BA proved a highly cost effective and efficient solution that will help ensure the residential apartments above are delivered fit for purpose.”
