Asda chooses Metza for new flagship Weymouth store
The £11 million refurbishment and development of ASDA’s new look store in Weymouth is using 80 Metza column casings to provide fire protection to support columns for the supermarket’s mezzanine floor, which has been added as part of the project.
By incorporating the new mezzanine floor into the design, the sales area has increased from 27,000 sq.ft to 52,000 sq.ft and each of the square support columns is protected by Metza casings, providing up to 3 hours protection in the event of a fire to maintain structural integrity.
Supplied in a ‘foodsafe white’ finish, Metza casings are manufactured from pre-formed coated sheet steel and incorporate a dense Rocksilk matting to provide a fire barrier classified as non-combustible to BS 476-4 and Class ‘O’ spread of flame in compliance with the UK Building Regulations.
To provide additional resistance to accidental damage from shopping trolleys, protective impact resistant corners have been fitted to each Metza casing.
